Abstract

Water provision needs at Al-Falah Orphanage comes from dug and drilled wells. PA Al-Falah is located on Jalan Mekkah behind the TVRI Office, Koto Tangah District, Padang City, using the water for toilets and basic material for cooking. The orphanage well water is categorized of low quality with characteristics looking cloudy, smelly, sandy, brownish yellow and black spots on the tub wall and bathroom floor. In addition, the water problem in this place also causes itching and yellow spots on the white clothes of school uniform. From the above problems, we provide solutions by socializing to increase knowledge about types of water purification, distributing questionnaires before and after socialization and assembly of multilevel filter system made of gravel, silica sand and activated carbon. The results of questionnaire distribution showed that there is an enhancement in knowing about water filter (softskill) and skills in making water filters (hardskill), while the clean water produced was good quality which was not cloudy, not sandy and odorless.
