Abstract

Waste management on university campuses is a crucial challenge in achieving environmental sustainability. This study aimed to identify patterns and factors influencing students’ waste disposal behavior at Universitas Lancang Kuning from a Zero Waste perspective. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using a survey of 69 students from the Faculty of Forestry and Science. Data were collected through an online questionnaire consisting of closed- and open-ended questions and analyzed descriptively and thematically. The results indicated that 78.26% of students were aware of the Zero Waste concept, and 63.77% understood its implementation. Environmental awareness was identified as the main factor encouraging proper waste disposal behavior, followed by appreciation for cleanliness and awareness of the negative impacts of waste. A total of 73.1% of respondents considered the implementation of Zero Waste on campus to be very important. The study concludes that effective Zero Waste implementation requires adequate facilities, consistent institutional policies, continuous education, and active participation of the academic community.
