Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of misconceptions of grade XI students of SMAN 6 Pekanbaru regarding the material of animal and plant tissues. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with a diagnostic test approach in the form of 30 multiple-choice questions equipped with a Certainty of Response Index (CRI) answer confidence scale. The study population was 140 students from four classes, while a sample of 101 students was selected using a simple random sampling technique. The research instruments included a CRI test and interview guidelines. Validity, reliability, discriminatory power, and level of difficulty of the questions had been tested in advance using ANATES software. Data collection techniques were carried out by giving tests and in-depth interviews to students who experienced the highest misconceptions. The test result data were analyzed by grouping the answers into three categories: understanding the concept, not understanding the concept, and misconceptions based on the CRI score and the correctness of the answers. The results showed that out of a total of 3030 student answers, 28.15% were in the category of understanding the concept, 19.76% did not understand the concept, and 52% experienced misconceptions. The highest misconception was found in the indicator "explaining the types of animal tissue" with a percentage of 78.21%. Factors causing misconceptions include students' wrong preconceptions, ineffective learning methods, and the use of inappropriate teaching materials by teachers.
