Abstract

Anxiety is a feeling of fear that is not clear and not supported by the situation. Individuals who feel anxious will feel uncomfortable or afraid, but do not know why the condition occurs. Anxiety has no clear identifiable stimulus. (Videbeck, 2012) Anxiety (anxiety) is an emotion and subjective experience experienced by a person and is associated with feelings of uncertainty and helplessness. (Kusumawati and Hartono, 2012) Anxiety is an unpleasant emotion characterized by worries, concerns and fears that arise naturally and in varying degrees. (Maimunah, 2009) 2.1.2 Etiology of Anxiety In general, there are two theories regarding the etiopathogenesis of anxiety, namely psychological theory and biological theory. Psychological theory consists of three main groups, namely psychoanalytic theory, behavioral theory and existential theory. While the biological theory consists of the autonomic nervous system, neurotransmitters, brain imaging studies, and genetic theory. (Sadock, 2015) 1. Psychoanalytic Theory Anxiety is defined as a signal of danger to impatience. Anxiety is seen as the result of a psychic conflict between unconscious desires of a sexual or aggressive nature and threats to them from the superego or external reality. In response to this signal, the ego mobilizes defense mechanisms to prevent unacceptable thoughts and feelings from arising.
