Pengenalan Hutan Arboretum Unilak bagi Siswa-Siswi SMA Nurul Falah Pekanbaru

Abstract

Forest has a significant role to the sustainability human-life. Therefore, its role should be continuously socialized to the society, specifically youth. This community service aimed at giving students’ comprehension on forest, forest functions, and Arboretum in Unilak. Further, the team of community service introduced students to some wild animals, like snake and dragon lizard, and flora (Herbarium) availed at the Arboretum of Unilak. The method used in activities of the community service was a lecture to 30 high school students of Nurul Falah, Pekanbaru.  To measure students’ comprehension, the team employed questionnaire given before and after the socialization. In the findings, the team found that students’ comprehension on the roles of forest improved significantly. Before the socialization, the percentage of their comprehension was only 60%. The percentage improved to 100% after the implementation of socialization. They could identify some flora and wild life availed in the Arboretum of Unilak. From the findings, the team concludes that high school students of Nurul Falah Pekanbaru can comprehend the roles of forest, identify some flora and wild animals in the Arboretum of Unilak.

Abstrak

Fungsi hutan sangat penting bagi keberlangsungan hidup manusia, sehingga pengenalan manfaat hutan harus disosialisasikan kepada masyarakat, khususnya generasi muda. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada siswa siswi tentang hutan, fungsi hutan dan Arboretum yang ada di Unilak. Lebih lanjut, tim Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) memberikan pengenalan beberapa jenis satwa liar sepeti ular, biawak dan reptil lainnya dan mengenalkan flora (Herbarium) yang ada di Hutan Arboretum Unilak. Kegiatan ini menggunakan metode ceramah kepada 30 orang siswa-siswi SMA Nurul Falah Pekanbaru. Untuk mengukur pemahaman siswa-siswi SMA Nurul Falah, maka tim memberikan kuisioner sebelum dan sesudah pemberian materi. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa siswa-siswi SMA Nurul Falah dapat memahami materi yang diberikan tentang manfaat dan fungsi hutan, pengenalan jenis reptil dan pengenalan jenis flora di Arboretum. Secara spesifik pemahaman siswa-siswi SMA Nurul Falah Pekanbaru meningkat. Sebelum pemberian materi pemahaman mereka terhadap materi berada pada persentase 60%, dan setelah diberikan materi meningkat menjadi 100%. Dari hasil ini dapat dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa-siswi SMA Nurul telah memahami fungsi hutan dan mengenali flora dan satwa liar yang ada di Arboretum Unilak.
