Abstract

 

The city of Palangka Raya started from a village located close to the banks of the Kahayan River. The initial village was named Kampung Pahandut. The people of Kampung Pahandut come from the Dayak tribe who depend on the Kahayan River for their livelihood. Residential settlements in Pahandut Village are a physical part of the development of Palangka Raya City. Various potentials that exist in the area along the Kahayan River are opportunities and attractions for tourism, such as culinary tourism, fishing, river crossings, public open spaces and cultural tourism to be developed. The design of this tourist area refers to the river border as a direction in designing the Kahayan River bank area. The purpose of this study was to obtain a residential building arrangement design in a tourist area on the banks of the Kahayan River, with a Vernacular Architecture approach. The research method is qualitative, namely the study of literature for information in collecting data on the design of tourism areas along the Kahayan River, including: (1) the stage of finding information and issues about the area (2) interviews with the Pahandut Seberang Village Head (3) interviews and collecting data on residents who living on the banks of the Kahayan River, Pahandut Seberang Village (4) analyzing the site; and (5) analyzing space and building requirements. This research resulted in the design of the Kahayan Riverside Tourism Area including: (1) site analysis (2) analysis of regional needs (3) obtaining area potential such as solid, void, linkage, place; and (4) potential buildings in the Kahayan Riverside Tourism Area plan.
