Abstract

Performance venues are not solely spaces for art; they significantly influence the audience's experience from the moment of arrival. The viewing experience begins with the audience's arrival and extends through their entry into the performance space. The West Java Cultural Park Closed Theater (Dago Tea House) is an important venue in Bandung, yet it faces challenges with audience flow. This study aims to analyze whether the audience flow aligns with the spatial functionality and receiving theater standards at the Dago Tea House Closed Theater. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing observation, document studies, and reviews of literature and prior research. The findings indicate that the lobby space is not utilized as a public area for general audience members but is reserved for VIP guests. Audience members are directed through a side entrance, which is not the primary route. Additionally, the absence of a ticketing area, a dedicated transition space, or sufficient directional signage leads to crowding, discomfort, and the loss of the lobby's function as a reception and initial introduction to the venue. This study concludes that the audience flow at the Dago Tea House Closed Theater does not meet receiving theater standards, thereby diminishing the quality of the audience's spatial experience. The results of this study are expected to provide evaluation material and recommendations for the management and interior design of cultural performance venues.
