Liquid waste from the textile industry, particularly from the denim-dyeing
process, has the potential to cause water pollution as it contains synthetic
dyes and hazardous chemical compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the
acute toxicity of denim-dyeing textile wastewater using comet goldfish
(*Carassius auratus*) as the test organism. The acute toxicity test involved
four concentration treatments: a control with no wastewater (P0), and
wastewater concentrations of 50% (P3), 75% (P2), and 100% (P1). Observed
parameters included fish mortality rates and the time until death during the
observation period. The results showed that at a 100% concentration, all test
fish died within approximately one minute of exposure, while at
concentrations of 50–75%, all fish died within approximately two hours. No
fish mortality was observed in the control group. Since all fish at the lowest
tested concentration experienced 100% mortality within less than 24 hours,
the LC50 value falls below the 50% wastewater concentration and could not
be calculated quantitatively. These findings indicate that denim-dyeing
textile wastewater is highly acutely toxic and poses a potential for serious
impact on aquatic organisms if discharged without adequate treatment.
