Abstract

The community of Waowala Village, in Ile Ape Subdistrict, Lembata Regency, utilizes Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) in the Ile Lewotolok Protected Forest for their daily needs, one of which is natural dye plants used to dye yarn in the production of ikat woven fabrics. The objectives of this study are (1) to identify the types of natural dye plants used by the Dasawisma ikat weaving group in Waowala Village and (2) to identify the factors threatening natural dye plants and the conservation efforts undertaken by the community for natural dye plants used in ikat weaving. This research was conducted in the Ile Lewotolok Protected Forest and in Waowala Village, Ile Ape District, Lembata Regency for one month, from January to February 2025. Data collection techniques used interviews, observation, coordinate point collection, and vegetation analysis. Data analysis used qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that there are six types of plants used as dyes for ikat fabrics, namely Tarum (Indigofera tinctoria L), Turmeric (Curcuma longa), Forest Mengkudu (Morinda tinctoria), Kelor (Ceiba pentandra), Teak (Tectona grandis), and Forest Kapok (Ceiba pentandra).
