EFEK PERENDAMAN BENIH JOHAR (Cassia siamea Lamk) DALAM ASAM SULFAT (H2SO4) TERHADAP PERKECAMBAHANNYA

Abstract

Johar (Cassia siamea Lamk) seeds have physical dormancy, because the entry of water and gases prevents by the hard seed coat in the process of germination. Therefore, to assist the germination process, pre treatment in the form of scarification is needed, among others using sulfuric acid (H2SO4) solution. This study aims to analyze the effect of soaking seeds in H2SO4 with 96% concentration on johar seed germination. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) method with 5 treatments i.e control, soaked  for 5, 10 , 15, and  20 minutes.   Each treatment have 3 replication with 50 seeds per replication. Parameter that was measure initial time of germination, last time of germination, 80% limit time for germination, percentage of germination and vigor index. The results of this research find that the H2SO4 solution (concentration of 96%)  had a significant effect on initial time of germination, last time of germination, 80% limit time for germination, percentage of germination and vigor index. The soaked for 15 minutes is the best treatment for scarification of johar seeds.
