This activity was conducted at SMA Negeri 4 Batam, Sekupang District, and targeted students of the Natural Sciences (IPA) program, with a focus on enhancing scientific literacy through education on basic motorcycle and car maintenance as a form of contextual learning. Science learning at the secondary school level is often abstract and insufficiently connected to real-life phenomena, resulting in suboptimal student understanding of the application of scientific concepts in everyday life. Basic vehicle maintenance education was selected as a learning medium because it is closely related to students’ daily experiences and effectively represents the direct application of science concepts such as energy and its transformations, mechanics, heat, and fluids. The implementation methods included interactive material delivery, simple demonstrations of vehicle components and systems, and discussions linking scientific principles to the processes involved in basic motorcycle and car maintenance. The activity was designed to encourage active student participation in observing, understanding, and connecting theoretical concepts with practical applications. The results indicate an improvement in students’ understanding of the application of science concepts in real-world contexts, particularly in relation to the working principles and basic maintenance of motor vehicles. In addition, the activity increased students’ interest and engagement in science learning that is practical and relevant to everyday life. This contextual learning approach through basic vehicle maintenance education is expected to serve as an effective alternative learning strategy to support the enhancement of scientific literacy among secondary school students.
