Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of Tropical Agro-Environmental (JTAE) upholds strict standards to ensure the originality and integrity of all published works. Plagiarism in any form is considered unethical and unacceptable. This policy outlines the journal’s approach to detecting, preventing, and addressing plagiarism.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism involves using someone else’s work or ideas without proper acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Direct Plagiarism: Copying text, figures, tables, or images directly from another source without citation.
-
Self-Plagiarism: Reusing significant portions of the author’s own previously published work without proper citation or justification (e.g., duplicate publication).
-
Mosaic Plagiarism: Borrowing phrases or ideas from a source and piecing them together without proper acknowledgment.
-
Improper Paraphrasing: Rephrasing someone else’s ideas or text without proper citation.
-
Unattributed Ideas: Using another individual’s theories, opinions, or research findings without giving due credit.
2. Submission Screening
-
All submitted manuscripts will undergo initial screening using plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate).
-
Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20% (excluding references and commonly used phrases) may be flagged for review.
-
Authors will be notified of potential issues and given an opportunity to revise the manuscript if plagiarism is detected.
3. Preventive Measures
-
Authors are encouraged to:
-
Use their own words and ideas when writing the manuscript.
-
Properly paraphrase and cite sources.
-
Include quotation marks for directly quoted text with appropriate citations.
-
Provide references for all data, figures, and ideas that are not original.
-
4. Consequences of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is identified at any stage of the publication process, the following actions will be taken based on the severity of the violation:
4.1 Before Publication
-
Minor Cases:
-
Authors will be required to revise the manuscript to address the identified issues.
-
-
Major Cases:
-
Manuscripts will be rejected outright.
-
The authors’ institutions may be informed of the misconduct.
-
4.2 After Publication
-
Retraction:
-
If plagiarism is discovered post-publication, the article will be retracted.
-
A retraction notice explaining the reason will be published in the journal.
-
-
Blacklisting:
-
Authors found guilty of severe plagiarism may be banned from future submissions to JTAE.
-
5. Appeals
Authors have the right to appeal decisions related to plagiarism by providing a written explanation and supporting evidence. Appeals will be reviewed by the editorial board.
6. Ethical Commitment
By submitting to JTAE, authors agree to adhere to this plagiarism policy. The journal reserves the right to update this policy as needed to uphold the integrity of its publications.
