This study aims to determine the effect of using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model on the skills of writing argumentative texts containing local Malay wisdom in Riau among students at Lancang Kuning University. This study was motivated by the low ability of students to write argumentative texts that pay attention to logical thinking structures and local Malay cultural values. The research method used was a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes of students majoring in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. Data analysis techniques used t-tests to see the difference in learning outcomes between the experimental class that used the CIRC model and the control class that used conventional learning. The results of the study indicate that the CIRC learning model does not have a significant effect on the skills of writing argumentative texts containing Riau Malay local wisdom. However, the application of this model can increase student participation and motivation in the writing learning process. Based on these findings, it is recommended that lecturers combine the CIRC model with reflective and contextual strategies that emphasize local cultural aspects in order to optimize writing learning outcomes.
