Abstract

This research aims to improve students’ motivation, participation, and academic achievement through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model in English language teaching at SMA Negeri 1 Kepulauan Posek, Lingga Regency—one of Indonesia’s frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) areas. Using Classroom Action Research (CAR) in two cycles, 25 Grade X students participated. The Discovery Learning model was applied through six stages: stimulation, problem identification, data collection, data processing, verification, and generalization. Findings revealed a significant increase in motivation (from 62% to 83%), participation (from 58% to 81%), and achievement (from 65.4 to 78.6). The model fostered contextual and collaborative learning using the local environment as a learning resource. Thus, Discovery Learning effectively enhances student-centered learning, particularly in 3T schools.
