Abstract

This study aims to find out how to apply the problem based learning (PBL) model with outdoor learning  techniques in improving student learning outcomes in the science subject of human digestive system material grade VIII SMP Negeri 3 Tanah Putih. This study uses Classroom Action Research (PTK) which consists of two cycles, each cycle consists of 2 meetings. The subjects of the study were 33 students in grade VIII. Data collection techniques are carried out through learning outcome tests (pretest and post-test) as well as observation sheets of teacher and student activities. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis by calculating average scores, completion percentages, and N-Gain, as well as descriptive qualitative analysis of teacher and student activities. The results of the study showed an increase in student learning outcomes from Cycle I to Cycle II. Based on N-Gain, most students were in the medium category in Cycle I, and increased to the high category in Cycle II. The percentage of student learning completeness also increased, and the activities of teachers and students during the learning process were more optimal in Cycle II. The results of the study showed an increase in student learning outcomes from Cycle I to Cycle II. The percentage of student learning completeness increased from 48% in the pretest to 72% in the Cycle I post-test, and increased further to 88% in the Cycle II post-test. The average N-Gain score of students was in the medium category in Cycle I, then increased to the high category in Cycle II. Teacher activity also increased, with the percentage of activity reaching 90% in Cycle II, while student activity increased to 85%, indicating that students were more active in discussing, cooperating, and asking questions. Thus, the application of  the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with outdoor learning  techniques has been proven to be effective in improving the learning outcomes of science of human digestive system material in grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Tanah Putih.
