Poor management of used cooking is still commonly found in communities, including in RW 4 Ketintang, Surabaya City. The lack of community awareness in managing used cooking oil waste resulted in blocked drains, causing relatively high water levels. This community empowerment programme introduces the Used Cooking Oil Bank, an innovative waste collection point that can have a positive impact on the environment. Additionally, a simple technology for purifying used cooking oil using termeric biosorbents is being introduced. This activity aims to increase public awareness in collecting waste cooking oil and to improve community skills in purification of waste cooking oil using the adsorption method. This programme involves enviromental activists from RW 04 Ketintang using a participatory approach, including education on the dangers of waste cooking oil, socialisation of the waste cooking oil bank mechanism, and the practice of purifying used cooking oil with turmeric. There was a high level of community enthusiasm, as demonstrated by active participation in waste oil collection and direct involvement in the purification process. Based on waste oil bank records, approximately 8-10 kg of oil was collected, and there was a 95% increase in the skills of participants in purifying used cooking oil using the turmeric method. Overall, this programme succesfully combines innovation in household waste management with increased public awareness, making it a sustainable model for maintaining health and enviromental sustainability.
