This study aims to analyze the information needs of Generation Z students and their implications for collection development at the Library Unit (UPT) of UIN Datokarama Palu. The research employed a descriptive design with a mixed-methods approach, involving 100 respondents selected through purposive stratified sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis with SPSS support and content analysis for qualitative data. The findings reveal that Generation Z students have a high level of information needs for reference sources (mean = 3.80), scholarly journals (mean = 3.68), and academic information (mean = 3.69), with a dominant preference for digital platforms such as Google Scholar (77 respondents), e-books (65 respondents), and AI-based platforms (58 respondents). However, their perception of the library’s collection remains within the “agree” category (mean = 2.69–2.93), with the lowest indicator being the relevance of the collection to coursework needs. The integration of quantitative and qualitative data indicates that Generation Z exhibits adaptive and pragmatic information-seeking behavior, emphasizing quick access and content relevance. These findings highlight the importance of implementing a user-centered collection development strategy that balances print and digital formats, updates collections in alignment with the curriculum, and actively involves students and faculty members in the collection selection process
