Digital based library transformation requires librarians to adapt and develop new competencies amid the rapidly evolving information landscape. This study aims to explore in depth how digital based library transformation takes place, as well as the challenges and opportunities faced by librarians throughout the process. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were obtained from three informants selected through purposive sampling, comprising a librarian in collection processing, a librarian in information technology, and a librarian in public services. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results show that library digital transformation occurs through five stages of Rogers' diffusion of innovation theory, namely knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation, each exhibiting distinct characteristics. Librarians demonstrated a positive attitude toward digital transformation, although responses varied across generations, with senior librarians requiring more time to adapt compared to younger generations. This study also identified four main challenges, namely gaps in digital competency, limited infrastructure and funding, digital divide among some library users, and weak data privacy and security policies. On the other hand, digital transformation opens opportunities for librarians to expand their professional roles as information brokers, literacy consultants, technology consultants, researchers, and writers. These findings provide empirical contributions to understanding the repositioning of librarians as adaptive actors in digital transformation, while also serving as a practical reference for developing sustainable library strategies.
