The preservation of ancient lontar manuscripts in Kabupaten Badung faced challenges because many manuscript owners considered lontar sacred and reserved only for religious purposes, causing resistance toward preservation activities. This study aimed to identify the knowledge preservation process of ancient lontar manuscripts conducted by the Dinas Kearsipan dan Perpustakaan (DisKerPus) Kabupaten Badung. The study employed a qualitative case study approach conducted from December 2023 to March 2024 involving five informants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis. Interviews involved representatives from the DisKerPus, Dinas Kebudayaan, and local manuscript owners. The collected interview data were analyzed using open coding, axial coding, and selective coding, while observational and documentary data were analyzed through conceptual analysis and data triangulation. The findings showed that the preservation process was implemented through four stages of knowledge conversion. Socialization was carried out through field visits, seminars, and the introduction of lontar collections in the library. Externalization involved facilitating learning activities, knowledge exchange, and documentation of manuscripts through cataloging and digital access. Combination was reflected in the formation of collaborative community practices and the use of shared technology for media conversion and preservation. Internalization occurred through selection, storage, and actualization processes that encouraged communities to apply preservation practices independently. The study concluded that knowledge preservation of ancient lontar manuscripts had been strengthened through collaboration between government institutions and local communities, although cultural perceptions regarding the sacredness of lontar remained a significant challenge in the preservation process.
