THE PRINCIPAL'S STRATEGY FOR ACHIEVING THE ADIWIYATA SCHOOL PROGRAM AT UPT SD NEGERI 036 TANAH DATAR

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategies implemented by the principal in achieving the Adiwiyata School Program at UPT SD Negeri 036 Tanah Datar a school located far from the district capital, with limited facilities and infrastructure, yet successfully attaining the Adiwiyata award at district, provincial, and national levels. It also analyzes the challenges encountered and the solutions applied during the implementation process. This research employs a qualitative approach using field study methods. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document analysis. The subjects of this study include the principal, teachers, parents, and students as key informants. The results reveal that the principal applied various strategies, including internal socialization among all school members, formation of a solid Adiwiyata team, integration of environmental values into the curriculum, and collaboration with the community and relevant external institutions. The main challenges faced in the program implementation include limited resources, lack of community participation, and low environmental awareness among some school members. These challenges were addressed through continuous training, increased internal motivation, and participatory and collaborative approaches. These strategies proved to be effective, as evidenced by the school’s success in receiving Adiwiyata awards at the district, provincial, and national levels. It can be concluded that the principal’s strategies in implementing the Adiwiyata program at UPT SD Negeri 036 Tanah Datar were effective and contributed significantly to fostering an environmentally conscious culture within the school. This study is expected to serve as a reference for other schools aiming to develop the Adiwiyata program sustainably.
