Experience and Expectation During E-Learning of Islamic Religion Education: The Students’ Response

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has set the stage for alterations to people life in all aspects, including the education aspect. There is a change from traditional learning to e-learning. The changes in learning occur fast and seem sudden in the midst of student mental pressure and lack of preparation. It may cause the expectations of their future learning experiences. The experiences of Islamic Religion Education (PAI) students using e-learning have been the focus of recent quantitative survey-based studies. This study was developed with two objectives: first, to learn about their experience with e-Learning-based Islamic Religion Education (PAI) and then, to reveal their expectations for e-learning. Both were approved using quantitative research that involved disseminating an online poll with 14 closed questions pertaining to 2 questions posed. The sample was purposively selected on 205 out of 1025 students from the Islamic Religious Education Study Program at Ibn Khaldun University Bogor (UIKA) Bogor as respondents by purposive sampling. Because it states the percentage of students participating in e-learning, the simple percentage approach was chosen as 153 respondents to examine the results. The results showed varied learning experiences in PAI-based e-learning, and they expressed the desire that this e-learning learning may continue even in everyday situations. This research can be used as a reference in improving e-learning to increase students' ability to understand the material taught and give convenience in following the learning process.

Muhammad Dahlan Rabbanie, Universitas Ibn Khaldun, Bogor, Indonesia

Muhammad Dahlan Rabbanie is an assistant professor in the field of Islamic education at ibn Universitas Ibn Khaldun Bogor, Indonesia. He hold a doctorate in Islamic education, completed his doctorate in 2.3 years with honors, teaches Islamic education in undergraduate programs, and is a presenter at various educational seminars and workshops, scientific orations, resource person at expert lectures at various national universities, and is an active book writer who has published 9 books, has written in national anthologies, and is an active book writer who has published 9 books, Today in addition to teaching, he holds the position of chairman of the Islamic religious education study program and chairman of the coordination of recognition of PAI lecturers throughout Indonesia at the association of Islamic religious education study programs (PPPAI), he has also served as deputy dean of student affairs and head of the quality assurance unit at the faculty of Islamic Religion.

 Katni is a senior lecturer with years of experiences at the faculty of Islamic religion in Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo.  His expertise in the fields of the Islamic education, where he teaches also in several study programs at the ibn Khaldun university, Bogor.

Khaidir Fadil is an assitant Professor at the faculty of Islamic religion at Universitas Ibn Khaldun Bogor. He holds a master's degree in basic education from Surabaya State University with years of experiences of teaching at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic Primary School) in the field of basic education. Currently, he is an active member of the PGMI lecturers' organization and involved in various activities as well as serves as secretary of the PGMI study program.
