Abstract

The development of social media has transformed the way users discover, select, and interpret book information in the digital space. TikTok, through #BookTok, has developed into an information search space that allows users to obtain book recommendations through video reviews, comments, and other users' reading experiences. This study aims to determine consumers' book search strategies through the use of #BookTok on TikTok. This study employed a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews and observations of TikTok users who actively use #BookTok to search for book information. The results show that users' information search process occurs through several stages: the emergence of information needs, content exploration through the #BookTok hashtag, comparison of book reviews, selection of information based on genre, ratings, and comments from other users, and finally, decision-making about which book to read or purchase. This study also found that TikTok features such as hashtags, video reviews, and comments support a visual, participatory, and interactive information search process. Furthermore, users utilize #BookTok not only to obtain book information but also to construct meaning for books through social experiences and the perspectives of other users in the digital social space.
