Plagiarism Check Policy

1. Plagiarism Screening

Jurnal Ilmiah Ekonomi dan Bisnis (JIEB) is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication. To uphold these standards, JIEB conducts plagiarism screening using Turnitin to identify similarities between submitted manuscripts and previously published works, online sources, and other available academic materials.

All authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original, properly cited, and prepared in accordance with accepted standards of academic writing and publication ethics.

2. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism occurs when an author presents another person's ideas, words, data, findings, or other intellectual contributions as their own without appropriate acknowledgment. Plagiarism also includes the use of substantial portions of previously published work without proper citation.

Duplicate publication and inappropriate text recycling, sometimes referred to as self-plagiarism, occur when authors reuse their own previously published material without adequate acknowledgment or disclose insufficiently the relationship between the new manuscript and their earlier work.

All forms of plagiarism and inappropriate duplication are considered violations of academic integrity and are not tolerated by JIEB.

3. Plagiarism Screening Procedure

All manuscripts submitted to JIEB are subject to plagiarism screening after submission and before the peer-review process begins. The editorial team evaluates the similarity report generated by Turnitin to determine whether the manuscript meets the journal's originality requirements.

The maximum acceptable Turnitin similarity index is 20%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold must be revised to meet the journal's requirements before they can proceed to peer review.

The similarity percentage is not the sole basis for determining plagiarism. The editorial team also examines the nature, source, and context of the similarities, including proper quotations, references, commonly used terminology, and similarities in the reference list.

4. Handling of Similarity Results

JIEB applies the following procedures based on the Turnitin similarity report:

  • Similarity index of 20% or below: The manuscript may proceed to the next stage if the editorial team determines that the similarities are acceptable and the manuscript complies with the journal's originality and citation requirements.

  • Similarity index above 20%: The manuscript will be returned to the author(s) for revision. Authors must address the identified similarities, improve paraphrasing where necessary, and provide appropriate citations and references. A revised manuscript may be screened again before proceeding to peer review.

  • Evidence of substantial plagiarism or serious publication misconduct: Regardless of the overall similarity percentage, the manuscript may be rejected if the editorial team identifies plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other serious violations of publication ethics.

Meeting the similarity threshold does not automatically guarantee acceptance or entry into peer review. The final decision rests with the JIEB Editorial Board.

5. Plagiarism Detected During or After Review

If plagiarism or inappropriate reuse of material is identified during peer review, after acceptance, or after publication, JIEB will investigate the matter in accordance with its editorial policies and applicable publication ethics standards.

Depending on the severity of the violation, the journal may request clarification or correction from the author(s), require manuscript revisions, reject the manuscript, or take appropriate post-publication action, including correction or retraction of a published article when warranted.

Authors will be informed of relevant editorial decisions and may be asked to provide explanations or supporting documentation.

6. Originality and Author Responsibility

By submitting a manuscript to JIEB, the author(s) confirm that the work is original, has not been published previously in a manner that constitutes duplicate publication, and is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.

Authors must acknowledge all sources appropriately, cite relevant previous studies, obtain permission for copyrighted material where necessary, and ensure that their manuscripts comply with accepted standards of research integrity.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy of their citations and references and for ensuring that their submissions do not infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

7. Editorial Authority

The JIEB Editorial Board reserves the right to evaluate similarity reports, request revisions, conduct additional screening, and reject manuscripts that do not meet the journal's originality requirements or that violate publication ethics.

The journal's decisions are based on the similarity report, editorial assessment, and the nature and seriousness of any identified ethical concerns.

Through this policy, JIEB aims to promote originality, transparency, accountability, and ethical scholarly publishing in economics and business research.
