Jurnal Ilmiah Pertanian Volume 19 Issue 3 (2022) presents research articles that focus on plant health, seed physiology, crop improvement, and environmental quality within tropical agricultural systems. The contributions in this issue reflect experimental, laboratory-based, and field-oriented approaches to understanding biological interactions, seed performance, and environmental pressures affecting crop production. Plant disease dynamics are addressed through a short communication reporting the co-infection of two Ganoderma boninense strains on oil palm seedlings. This study provides insights into pathogen interactions that may influence disease severity and management strategies in oil palm nurseries. Environmental dimensions of agriculture are examined in a study assessing heavy metal contamination in the soil–water–rice system near coal-fired power plants in Cilacap, Indonesia, highlighting potential implications for agroecosystem health and food safety.

A substantial portion of this issue is devoted to seed germination, early growth responses, and selection processes. One article evaluates the effects of natural plant hormones and seed soaking duration on the germination, growth, and yield of expired red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) seeds, offering perspectives on improving seed viability. Another study examines genetic diversity and selection progress in F6 generations of long bean (Vigna unguiculata (L.)), based on agronomic traits relevant to crop improvement efforts. Methodological aspects of seed testing and propagation are further explored through research optimizing germination testing methods and planting media for Artemisia annua L. seeds, as well as a study investigating the germination and early growth responses of teak (Tectona grandis Linn. f.) seeds under different concentrations and soaking durations in hydrochloric acid. These contributions provide practical references for seed technology, nursery management, and propagation practices.

Collectively, the studies presented in this issue highlight complementary perspectives on plant pathology, environmental assessment, seed science, and crop improvement, reinforcing the role of experimental evidence and applied methodologies in supporting resilient and sustainable agricultural production systems.
