Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of library service quality on students’ reading interest at SMA Negeri 1 Perhentian Raja. The background of this research is based on the important role of school libraries as educational support facilities that contribute to the development of students’ literacy and learning motivation. High-quality library services are expected to encourage students to develop positive reading habits. This study employed a descriptive quantitative research method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 193 students selected as samples from a total population of 372 students. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis to examine the relationship between library service quality and students’ reading interest. The results indicate that library service quality has a positive and significant effect on students’ reading interest, as shown by a regression coefficient value of 0.270 and a t-value of 2.177, which is greater than the critical t-value at the 5% significance level. The coefficient of determination (R Square) is 0.574, meaning that 57.4% of students’ reading interest can be explained by the quality of library services, while the remaining 42.6% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. These findings suggest that improving library service quality can be an effective strategy to enhance students’ reading interest. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected.
